Is the "Chicago financial district" a good part of town?

The hotel we're looking at is "nestled in the heart of Chicago's financial district, just two blocks from Sears Tower" but one of my friends said Sears Tower is not a place you want to have your hotel around.

It's not too bad. It is a little more dead at night than say Michigan Avenue or State Street but not totally. I would walk around there at night.

It's fine during the day, and almost deserted at night. It's like any other major city. If you're looking at the Midland Hotel, it is just fine although not fancy. It's one of the old hotels and has been kept up very well, so the rooms are clean and comfortable even though a bit small.

That must be either the "W" or LaQuinta. You're about 1/2 mile west of the action on Michigan Ave. During the day this area is busy, but after 5pm it's deserted. I wouldn't walk alone at night there, but there's plenty of taxis right outside the hotel.

Why wouldn't you want to stay near the Sears Tower? It's fine. And because it's the "financial district", it's a pretty safe bet that it's one of the "good parts of town". You'll be fine.
