What is the A Button on a PS2 Controller?
This is for the kids' game Dog Island. My daughter has it for PS2 and everything online we find is for the Wii. It says to put objects down using the A button. We've tried the X on the PS2 as described as well as other buttons and nothing works. Is there something else she should be doing?
Ok, let's see if I can explain better. You can get the game for the Wii the XBox and for the PS2. However, online...the game walkthroughs are written by people who were playing it on a Wii, so they talk about putting things down by pressing the X Button. We have the game for the PS2. I have no idea what the equivalent would be of the X Button. I cannot find a walkthrough online for the PS2 to see what this would be.
Andy can you repost that url? It got cut off. Thx.
Sigh..I meant they talk about pressing the A button...not the x button. Sorry. I have a PS2 and am confusing myself! lol
Anyway, we are trying everything. There is a book with the game but it doesn't talk about equivalent controllers.
Ok, to those people who seriously can't read. I DID read the manual and I DID google for a PS2 version. This is all clear in my question and edits. Telling me to do this is absolutely not helpful. To the person who noted that my link talks about the square button, I did read that part. Thanks for noting it. We'll retry it.

According to that link, A should be square on the ps2 controller.

Hey, I checked out the site for myself. I can't find any other titles on google.
That website you gave me, say its self that A represents X. And on any other game consul, A would be in that same area. (Easiest accessed by the thumb.)
But as you are saying, the people who wrote this were on the wii.
I have a ps3, and had a ps2 for a few years before this. I play quite a bit, and from the games I have played I can tell you a few more options you may want to try.
Did you try R3? The analogue stick is actually a button itself. You press down on this and it will make a clicking sound. Some games I have played, I picked up objects with this.
It makes sense the people who wrote this didn't know, because they probably have no Idea R3 is even a button.
Other wise try all the other shapes. Triangle might even be it.
R1 or R2. Any other button I don't know. Most likely it's R3.
Go give this a try.
Tell me if it works.
edit:: does the X work with anything else? like.. does the controller work for sure? try blowing in it. or even look for a phone number and call the company.

The dual-shock controllers have an LED that lights up when it's connected. Is that coming on? Try blowing air into the controller port and the plug (close your eyes so you don't blow dust into your eyes.) Some third-party companies make controllers for the PS2. Some are really cheap because they're not built as good as the official Sony controllers. That's good for you though, because the price is low and you hardly play your's, so it doesn't need to be very durable. You could find a new one for $10, or a used one from Gamestop or Ebay for $5.

You know I actually read all of that? haha :-)
Well I know exactly what ya mean... I went through the same thing with a few old games for my PS1!
The problem is, in most cases, cheats are different on most consoles... for an outcome the same on a Wii and PS2, there might be a different combination, or, no combination at all. The PS2 probably wont have the same cheat combinations as the Wii. Sorry!
Good luck anyway! :-D

I haven't heard of the game before, but try looking in the manual for a key as to what the A button is. I used to have one game for PlayStation and the A button was either the right or left directional button, depending on the way you were facing. Otherwise try pressing select or start or holding down a button while pressing X.

on a 4button controler (like the xbox or such) i belive its rotate clockwise once to get it - so xbox A is really PS2's Square.
Its also possible - some games are directly similer to multi-system controlers - so A button is Xbutton.
and in japanese games, X to O : and xbox is A to B
if that made sense your safe - if not : you need to do more research on how a strategy guide is found lol - Either way, just get a xbox/wii to PS2 Converter - their cheap as hell, and you can use your ps2 or even xbox/wii controller on any of the systems :D

Normally X stands for the A button on Ps2 remotes/games. i really dont know why it wouldnt work. is there a controls list on your game? maybe somewhere in the settings? if not, i dont know what to tell you. Play around with different buttons i guess. I also looked around for the controls and had no luck.
Sorry! Good luck.

That is something on it for PS2. As for the A button problem, have you tried looking in the instruction book that comes with the game? It may have word boxes show button's functions connected to the PS2 buttons via a line.

Ummm, your question is alittle confusing???
You can only use a ps2 controller on a ps2.... and a Wii mote on a Wii
