What formula do I use to calculate the year on year turnover impact of a drop in customers?
I am trying to calculate the turnover variance between jan to june 08 and jan to june 09 due to loss of customers. I have already accounted for the change in rpi. I have figures for total number of customers at end of each month, and we steadily lose them as we note them to a different product. How do i calculate the monetary impact?
@PHIL P
There are other variances that make up the difference therefore I can't just take an average. We charge each customer on an annual basis, therefore the lost customers each month only have an impact up to that month (1 month impact for customers lost in first month and so on).

USE A LINE CHART
Horizontal line for Months
Vertical line for value ( £s)
This should highlight your calculations and act accordingly

You need to calculate an average spend figure for each customer - so then you can measure the impact.
Start with the total loss of sales, and divide by the number of lost customers.
This will give you the average and you can then calculate it month by month and the totals will agree at the end of the period.
