    Hello

i'm a student dental hygienist. this is gingivitis.

With regards to the piece of gum?!!?!? Often you find that it is a blood clot that formed between your teeth. It is not hard like a scab as it has been kept moist by saliva...it is gooey and dark red. This then gets dislodged by your toothbrush.

I very much doubt it is a piece of your gum. I'm sure it will clear up in a couple of days...just use warm salt water mouth rinse/mouthwash.

In layman's term, when your gum bleeds because your gums were either infected or inflamed, and not related to how the dentist cleaned your teeth. But sometimes, your dentist or hygienist can be a little rough with the cleaning thus result in the bleeding. It is very difficult to determine why your gums are bleeding. A typical cleaning is a process to remove plaque and staining. Just imagine plaque is like butter. You don't need much pressure to remove plaques. On other hand, it you have not had your teeth clean for a while (like several years), you may have developed tartar on your teeth that required heavy hand work or the use of a machine that we call a cavitron (water spray pick). This cavitron vibrate and knocks the tartar off, which sometimes may cause some bleeding. The key thing that you want to watch out is that if your gums bleed while brush and flossing, then you may have either gingivitis (acute gum infection) or early bone loss such as gum disease (periodontitis). You should consult with your dentist or a gum specialist for further information. Good Luck.

I think you'll be fine. My dentist does a very thorough cleaning and my gums hurt afterward, but then a day (at the most 2) later, I feel great. If your gums still hurt 48 hours from now, then got back to the dentist.

Teeth fall out, not gums. It's normal for teeth/gums to hurt some after a cleaning and if you don't floss/brush regularly then your gums will bleed. Floss every day and you won't have any problems.

sounds like you have gingivitis (gum disease)

dont worry .. it is completely reversable..

be sure to floss every nite (morning after breaky too if you have time) as well as brush and use mouth wash.

Corsodyl is great for gum related problems .. dont over do it though as after prolonged use it can stain teeth - but a smokers toothpaste will remove any discolouring it may cause !

if he did a perio cleaning then no....what some dentists do is literally clean in between the teeth and they do so by moving (or removing) the gum that has grown over the gap between....the gum will grow back and you won't have to worry about it later....but yea its a pretty painful cleaning!

trust me though you have nothing to worry about...perios are painful but you wouldn't believe some of the stuff that comes out between your teeth (between i mean towards the root...the gap between the roots) the bad buildup results in people not flossing so food starts to pack

    prettty gross lol

He is an abusive dentist. Seek reparations immediately.

If it's just a small piece, probably not. But I would change dentists. imho...

sounds like gingivitus, Corsodyl mouthwash is perfect for that, tastes horrible though.
