The linksys web site will have the information you need. You will probably need to reset the router to factory defaults to start with anyway, so hold down the small reset button on the back for 20 seconds or so, then you should be able to connect to the default 192.168.1.1 administrator page. Depending on model, the password is usually "admin"

I dont know how to best answer this but this is what i did(assuming you have dsl with a dynamic connection)

    1) Unplug the Ethernet cable from your computer and plug that into the back of the router in the internet port (on my router its the blue onem by itself)

    2) Connect anothe ethernet cable from one of the other ports (on my router this is the yellow one) to your computer.

you should now have this setup modem-->router-->computer whereas before you had modem --> computer

that should work if not try using the reset switch on the back of the router.

to get wireless you will have to config the router.

to configure the router go to internet broser and type http://192.168.0.1/

when asked for a username leave this blank

    password is "admin"

if that does not work try redsetting the router.

then go to the tab for wireless routing and follow the instructions.

What you need to do is call up linkys look up there style and tell them your undertaking via fact I had the comparable undertaking and the router grew to become out to be broken so I had to pass out and purchase a sparkling one. O and in the experience that your router is unlocked then you definately can use the router yet while that's locked and you dont be attentive to the password then your screwed. to hook up with the router look on your computing device for on the spot connections and choose the single that has the superb singnal this is in all probability yours. I was hoping THIS HELPED!!!!!

It should have come with instructions---you also need an installation CD which would have come with the router.

On the lap top, wireless settings need to be enabled. If you cannot find them you may need to DL the driver for them. Can't say much more beyond that. Not familiar with Dell :)

It doesn't really matter what the laptop brand is...for instructions how to set up the router go to the wireless router manufacturer's website.
