Sounds like you've ramped up too quickly on metformin. The side effects should have subsided by now I think, so I'm surprised. You should not stop taking the meds without consultation. That can have bad side effects too.

The good news is that metformin is the first-line drug, so there has to be others (though they are on average probably less effective).

    imho...

I may be wrong, but it seems as if you have a disease such as Crohn's or colitis. The same thing happened to me...i lost a lot of weigh over a small amount of time. I also had other symptoms such as stomach aches, diarrhea, fever, fast metabolism, nausea, and fatigue. If you have any of these symptoms I recommend seeing your doctor again. Try going back to your doctor to see if this may be a possibility. PS. I am not a doctor do not base the fact that you have a disease off of this.

Source(s): I have had Crohn's disease for 6 years now and have been going under treatment.

take the anitbiotic and see what happens. Wait to see how your labs come back. It sounds like he should have gotten a stool sample. Did you see if you could take some pedobismol? i love that stuff! try eating things that might not be hard on your stomach, it prolly needs a break. other than that ask your doctor what you can do and see how ur stuff comes back. Oh and drink water. your body is prolly dehidrated. i hope you feel better.
