Do you ever reflect upon how seemingly inconsequential choices affect your lives and others?

My college friend(both out of college and teaching) were undecided about where to go on Friday night. I won the convincing and we went to a place that was a bit of a compromise for no discernible reason. I met a girl(she asked me to dance) and sort of got her phone number. I saw her again the next week and less than a year later we were married. We are still married after 20 years and have two kids. If I had gone somewhere else where he wanted to go things would be much different and my 12 year old twins would not have been born. What chance encounters and decisions have determined your life?

I once got an email from someone I did not know. I came real close to deleting it without reading it. The way I had that account set up, the emails would pop up as I scrolled throught them. I glanced down at the monitor and certain words in that email caught my eye. I read it and it was from a guy's cousin, I went to school with this guy years ago and she wrote to tell me he was looking for me. I responded, she put me in contact with him and 5 months later I married him.

All I can say is I'm so glad I took the time to read that email!

I'm glad to hear that you are happy. Good for you.

I can't help to wonder: Say you didn't go to that specific place and didn't meet your spouse that you are married to know, but rather met someone else who made you happy and you had say 1/2/3 beautiful children with her, maybe you would've been typing this same question with just a different scenario.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the greatest gift is being happy with what you have and appreciate the people in your life and never look back to what ifs.

    i have a similar story actually =]

i was having a really awful day at college one day and so bought some cider to drink with a friend on the grass outside. a guy who was an acquaintance of mine walked out and i muttered "do you want a drink of cider?"...

we got talking, and over that summer we became best friends and ended up sleeping together as part of a foursome on a whim because we were all so drunk. we started going out and now i've been living with him a year and we're so in love =]

coincidences sometimes bring out the best in people. that first day, my now partner had come out of class 5 minutes early, and i was ready to go home. if the class had gone on for that extra five minutes we may not be where we are now.

if i hadn't had a huge argument with my mother that morning, i wouldn't have bought the cider and wouldn't have offered him a drink.

i love coincidences and chance tiny decisions that seem insignificant at the time. chances are, they'll change your life, and i've never been so happy in my life =]

your story is beautiful, and i wish the best for you guys :)

It is amazing to think about - I had a friend in high school who worked at Sea World. I didn't really want to work there, but I decided to interview. Something changed and I decided to go ahead and do it. That lead me to a place down the street from my 2nd job, where I met a person who got me an application to the job I have now - where I've been for 21 years.

  • I do...

As a younger lad, i was a bit shy ( imagine that) and a friend convinced me to hang around the apartment complex pool one summer weekend. Little did i know that by listening to the female friend telling me something insignificant as " live a little, will ya?", I actually met the young lady I ended up married to for so many years before her passing WAY before her time.

Had I not come out of my cave that day, I would have never met her..

I always try my best to mull things over... so many times we do things not thinking how they will affect others, or events in life. I too would not have my adorable and wonderful husband of 3 years if I would have stuck to original plans! I was supposed to get my car inspected at another shop and missed my appointment and would up making one with him at his instead. :) Little things like that really make you think...

I make choices in life, cause they are best for my self and the dear ones closest to me. I do not care how they effect others. i am self-rightous and proud of it.
