what do Bostonians call liquor stores?

I know they have a "slang" name for it, but I don't know how to spell it. My real question is, why do they call it that?

Update:

I was dating this girl from Boston a few months back and she claimed it was called that because pakistani's usually run the store. i had a hard time believing something that racist would be should a coming word for it. now i meet another broad from boston and she told me the package store story. i like that better. thanks for the clarification!

Packies is short for package stores. They have been called packies long before the influx of Pakistanis started buying and running stores in the area.
