Isotope issues? What would be the delta 18 O value of pure 18 0 ?

    delta-18O is defined as ((18O/16O)sample/(18O/16O)standard)-1)*1000

    For pure 18O, the 18:16 is infinity. Everything else in the equation is irrelevant in that case so delta-18O is infinity. But you cannot get there naturally -- all natural fractionation processes have an asymptotic approach.
