Why doesnt Photoshop CS2 read D700 Raw files?
My Photoshop CS2 has Camera Raw 3.7. It doesn't read D700 Raw files. Later Camera Raw Versions are listed for C3 or C4. Do I use one of them or do I have to upgrade???

Hi,
I am afraid CR 3.7 does not support Nikon D700 RAW files - link to supported cameras below. You will not be able to use later CR versions with CS2. Your best option, short of a PS upgrade is to use the Adobe DNG converter - free from Adobe. It just puts another step in the process but it works.
Adobe is quite cute on this one - CS3 does not support Canon 5D Mkii RAW files, and CS3 will not work with version 5.4. I opted to get CS4.
Hope that helps

If I am not mistaken, you do not need to upgrade to the newer version of Photoshop. You should be able to download the newest ADOBE RAW that will read the D700 files for use with your CS2 program.

Unfortunately, the only version of CR that will read nikon's new .NEF RAW fils only works with photoshop CS4. While it should work with CS3, everything I've read is to the contrary. This pretty much means if you buy a new camera, and there is a new version of photoshop on the market, you will be forced to upgrade your version of photoshop to be able to use the new RAW files. For me, CS3 works fine, and I see no need to upgrade to CS4 (even if the price is $199).
Super job, Adobe.
You other option would be to shoot in JPEG.

Well, if you don't have the money or the will to upgrade to that bloated monstrosity that is CS4, get the GIMP and the UFRAW plugin.
You can also use UFRaw as a stand alone application without the GIMP.
Open Source to the rescue!
