Is my new Nikon 105 Micro Vibration Reduction working?

I have an 8800 and a D700. The VR on the 8800 is easy to notice but not on the 105. Is there a way to check if it is working or to test it?

The VR on the 105 is in lens not in body so it will not seem to work the same. And the in lens according to Nikon and Canon tests does a better job at VR. How to test it turn it off and take a series of pictures handheld of a fixed object under constant lighting. Keep slowing the shutter speed with each shot and notice where it became blurry due to camera shake. Now turn the VR on and do the exact same thing. The pictures should stay sharp to a slower shutter speed with the VR on I find its about 2-3 stops when I played with it but yours may be different depending on if you can handhold with more or less stability than I can I've seen claims of up to 5 stops difference
