how do i find out if my dvd-writer has an IDE or a SATA connection?

My old dvd writer doesn't want to read any of the disks I put in it, whether I wrote those disks or not.

Now I want to change it, but i don't know if I have a newer SATA or the older IDE connection port.

Anyone know how I can I find that out?

right click on my computer or the computer icon, right click properties, then click hardware tab, then device manager.

click the plus beside of the cd rom icon.. right click there. and walla..

or pull the side off the puter, if it has a small looking cable, its sata... if it has a big plug, around 2 inches long, IDE.

sata is about the same size as a usb plug (the side that plugs in the puters)

you can also go into computer icon, right click on the drive, hit properties, then clikc hardware tab, look at the cd rom there.. highlight it, and it can tell ya there.
