Why won't my laptop load?
When I start it up, it gives me the 5 different options on how to start it (3 different safe modes, last known good config, and normal). When I choose safe mode, a black screen pops up with white commands and does nothing. When I choose regular or last know good configuration, it stays on the screen where windows is loading.
I thought about running the restore thing on it, but if I do that, will I lose all of my pictures? I have a ton of priceless ones of my mom that I don't have paper copies.

as long as all your photos music etc. is in folders you won't lose anything by running system restore, you should run a disk check as well, here's how:
open my computer
right click on hard drive icon
select properties
click on tools
click on check now in error checking section
click on both tick boxes and click start.
you can't run an error check on the primary hard drive when the system is in use, so book it to run on the next reboot.
reboot the machine and let the error check run it's course, it may take an hour or longer depending on the size of your hard drive, don't be tempted to interrupt it, as this can cause problems.
hope it works out. good luck.
UPDATE: DAVID H....SO SYSTEM RESTORE ''WIPES EVERYTHING AWAY FOREVER'' DOES IT??? AND YOU ARE A TOP CONTRIBUTOR???...IN WHAT??? BECAUSE IT SURE AINT COMPUTERS!!!...I SUGGEST YOU GO BACK TO YOUR OWN CATAGORY!!!!!
UPDATE: AMANDA...if you cant get into the operating system, either take it into a shop or take the hard drive into a shop and ask them to recover the files from the hard drive, your files are all still on there. if you are in england i can do it for you myself. post location.

Nothing and no advice will save your stuff. You'll have to do a system restore (if you can) and that will wipe all you stuff away forever.
The problem is your 'registry file' is missing or corrupted for whatever reason and 'you can't get into the LT' to sort it out so no advice here will help you - unless you can 'get into' the LT to sort it out.
This sort of thing has become a 'huge problem' in the last few weeks I have noticed 19+ cases of this happening and 'no solution has been found' the repair cost will out weigh the 'value' of your LT - as these repair people (rip off merchants) charge 70-90 per hour + parts - which would take your repair to some 200 - so you'd be better looking at buying a new LT................Fresh start - 1yrs warranty. ...........Bad luck !!

If none of the options are working for you, then sadly yes you may have to format and reinstall windows and you would lose your data.
I would suggest going here for help, perhaps there is something they can tell you to try, or at the very least help you recover the photo's of your mom.

In the future I suggest backing up your important files. I have mine on both my laptop and an external hard drive.

yeah dont restore it. when i did that for my computer everything was gone. if i was you i would save all the pictures to an email and take it to a store (best buys, sears, etc) to see what they say. but save your stuff you need to your email or you'll lose them all.
