Volleyball - Answering questions. Where do you put your credentials?
I am wondering how you fellow volleyball answerers/askers feel about the mindset of some responses.
Does it help to state credentials in the beginning or in the Sources section?
Personally, I feel that it gets in the way of an otherwise good answer and belongs at the end, away from the meat of an answer, if necessary at all.
All thoughts are very welcome as I am just curious of the general census. (You don't get points for agreeing w/ me, i want to know what you think)

Personally, I just let my answer speak for itself. If it seem like I know what I'm talking about I'll get the best answer regardless of the fact I never use the source section. Sometimes I feel as if the source section is used to brag. like "playing for 6 yrs, 5 yrs on elite team, varsity captain" or whatever. I've met alot of people that can do stuff themselves but are hopeless at teaching or advising others. Or vice versa. So those mean nothing. If it an experience in the question that I have personally experienced-then I might mention that and what helped me in the course of the answer I give them.
wow, I didnt really think I had that much to say on this. lol

I agree with you.
When I started on Y!A, I put some credentials in the Source section to impress people. That way, they "knew" I was correct. I will now add credentials later if I answer a rules question and someone after me has a wrong answer or says that I am wrong.
I think the only time it really helps is when someone is very new to the site. If they see your credentials at the bottom, it might help them trust you. However, if they have been on the site for a month or so, they know the people to trust. They also know the people that answer a question just for the 2 points. (My favorite answers like that: "idk" or "try google.")
Source(s): Too many impressive credentials to list here. (Attempt at a joke in case you did not know.) - shannonLv 61 decade ago
I think in the sources, because they stick out more. I know when I'm reading an answer or a question, I sometimes miss a few sentences or words in the original paragraph. But if it's separated from the answer, people will definitely see it and know that they aren't getting a volleyball answer from a lacrosse player! Also, if I read an answer that the first few sentences said, "I tried out for the olympics, I'm on a varsity team, i'm 8 feet tall..." I might think that this person isn't going to fully answer my question.
Source(s): national volleyball player (not that it matters for this question!) - 1 decade ago
I am not just agreeing with you for the points, but yes i do agree. I never realized it got in the way, but its proper space is at the end. There is a sources section for a reason. That is why it was created, that is where they belong. I hope this helps!
