Tried to adopt an African Grey Parrot?

Are you actually adopting? From a sanctuary/animal shelter? If so, it's surprising, as well as alarming, that they haven't provided you with sufficient enough time to regularly visit the bird and see whether or not it was a right match. The sanctuary that I used to volunteer for had no problem denying an adoption if, after several weeks of regular visits, a bird continued to be unresponsive/uncomfortable around someone.

Of course he needs more time to get to know you, there's no doubt about that.

African Grays are very intelligent and are great for intermediates! He does need some time knowing you, and if you spend like 20 minutes a day, he should get use to you soon.
