Will primer make my acne prone skin worse?
I'm 22 years old and I'm recovering from very bad acne I had as a teen. For the first time in as long as I can remember I'm feeling good about my skin and want to experiment with makeup. I've heard primer makes your skin look better and your makeup will last much longer. I have oily skin so having makeup look good for more than a couple of hours has always been a challenge. However, I'm concerned using primer will clog my pores and make my skin suffer from breakouts. I've only been using mineral powder and a bit of blush on my skin. Should I start using primer?
I already bought a primer but I haven't used it. It's Laura Mercier and it's supposedly oil free

I don't really think primer is a neccesity when it comes to makeup. All it really is is a glorified clear foundation. I reccomend that you make sure all of your products are oil free, from your moisturizer to your foundation. I just use my moisturizer as a primer, it hasn't been until recently that primers have begun to become popularized.
Preparing you skin before you apply make-up will help it last longer, but a moisturizer will work just as well. It'll probably be easier to find a moisturizer that is oil free than it is to find a primer that is oil-free. You can also get a moisturizer with salycic acid in it to help fight acne as well as moisturize.
If you're still dead set on getting a primer, make sure it's oil free, or it will only worsen your problems.

I'm completely biased towards Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals foundations and primers. I do not have acne-prone skin, but I am very oily. I use their primer, Prime Time, and it is great for my oily skin. Just make sure you're washing your face every night, and moisturizing.

you could use a moisturizer for oily skin as a base instead because that will help make up set, you could try clean and clear it helps absorb excess oil and should stop your make up running off your face if you wear anything heavier than mineral, but if you're not wearing much than a primer or moisturizer isn't really needed. x

foundation is not the answer as it makes acne worse try using a moisturiser when you wake up before you apply make up and before you go to bed this routine should cut down your acne there is a range of chemical free skincare products called simple try cleansers and moisturisers from this range they have worked a treat for me
