Can a duck take care of a chick?

My duck seemed to be longing to be a mother so badly ever since her love mate died from a dog attack. So she would sit on her unfertalized eggs for weeks even though we knew they weren't gonna hatch, so my sister placed two fertilized chicken eggs on her batch. Five weeks later, a chick was born. She seemed to adore it and keep the chick warm but I'm not completely sure a duck can really care for a chick. This chick was born yesterday.

well as her animal insitct, shell know it cant swim or ne thing, but shell take care of it and feed it, like show it how to eat grass and all. but keep an eye out, in case the chick goes in the water, or it can drown...

A duck caring for a chick will not be careful of it, and will expect it to swim in water as it does. If you can keep them both away from large bodies of water the chick might do ok.
