Saw a bug I never saw before, what could it be?

Yesterday I was standing outside my house and saw something floating through the air. But then I noticed it wasn't floating, it was flying, erratically at that. I stuck my arm up and it landed on it. Now the bug looked like a white wisp. Kinda like something that would fall off a dandelion. White and fluffy. It crawled on my hand for a minute then flew away. I was just wondering what kind of bug this was. Oh I live in the Chicago land area of Illinois, in the United States of America. Thanks for any help.

Could be a white fly. Not true flies, they are from the Order Homoptera. Here's a pic of one species:

I think I have seen the same kind of bug here on the east coast. Not sure what it's called though.

More than likely a Woolly Aphid.

I have seen them too...almost like a tiny faerie floating around..or a fuzzy gnat...

they seem very fragile; but so much of nature is possessed of a resilience that is almost legendary...

If you get an ID on this bug, please post it.
