When did you start taking your child(ren) to see movies in the theaters?
At what age did you find that your child was able to sit through a *G* or *PG* movie in the theater? What movie was the first movie you saw together?
I'm glad to see that the average is about 3-4 years old! My son is going on 3.5yrs and I would like to take him on a Mommy and me type outing w/o his younger sister...I think taking him to see a movie would be a special treat! Thanks for all the replies!

My son was 3 when I took him to see his first movie in the theater which was Monsters Vs Aliens in 3d and he loved it. I got him a kids popcorn tray he was so happy, and payed attention to the movie very well. The only problem was he kept taking off his 3d glasses. I also took him to see UP (this time not in 3d) and he did not move or make a peep he loved up so much he even begged his grandparents to take him to see UP again =]

All kids are different. I didn't take my son to a movie until he was about 20 months old. I wouldn't take him when he was an infant, because that's just ridiculous in my opinion. At 20 months, he was allowed to watch small amounts of TV and was able to sit quietly for extended periods of time. I brought him to see Cars, and he loved it. He watched the whole thing without making a peep, and was in his glory when we left the theater.
*ETA* I never said I was talking about you. However, I don't think it counts when the child in question is a newborn. Any newborn will lie there and be quiet in a theater. The asker wants to know when a child who can actually move is able to sit through a movie.
Not to mention the damage that such a loud theater can do on a newborn's ears... uggh.

I was 4 when my parents first planned on bringing me to the cinema for the first time! I remember it really well. We saw '101 Dalmations' the film, not the cartoon one. I remember my parents explaining what the cinema was and I started crying because I though Cruella Deville was actually going to be there behind a screen! lol! In the end I decided I didn't want to go so me and daddy stayed at home! A couple of months later I think I was brought... But I can't remember what we went to see!

My daughter is 19 months and even though she can sit through a whole movie. (we have family movie nights at home) I still dont think im ready to take her to a theatre until she is at least 3-4 yrs old. Its just too crowded and overstimulating and not to mention loud! Some times its way to loud for me so I couldnt imagine for her little ears.

My twins are almost 3 and I took them yesterday with my husband to see ice age 3. I don't think really a child under 12 months should go to the cinema.
