some are. Some are the product of fear and others are just stories passed down and changed every generation.

in the term of how they came up with it, then yes, but is it a map to the mind, no. a myth is lesson to be learned, its not the imagination of person who is opening their mind. if you want the idea of what they are thinking, first read the beginning, then jump towards the end and move back. the beginning will tell you the problem, the end the answer, the middle is how they got to it. the reason you read in this order is because that's the order it was written in. they got a problem, they know the answer, they now try to make a way of getting to it. think of math it this term : (x + 6)(x +1) = 24, x = 2. you have the problem, you have the answer, now you need to know how to get to the answer to make sense of it. that's how myths are formed, if you want to know their psychological mind, you need to know what the problem is and what they think is the answer. the only problem with this is that it will give you very little info, it's best to study the person face to face then from what they put, this is because you need to map out the way they say it and get the real idea of the story. very good question, i would recommend reading some more into this, its a very good subject.

Hhmm...this is a good question and I think I am pretty qualified to answer it since I am at the end of a Bachelor's in Psychology. They would definitely give insight to the person who came up with it but I think that is the only person they would give you a concept of except for the person who really relates to them and repeats them often. I do not think they are a way to understand the concept of the human mind if you are saying humans as a whole.

Looking at these forums and seeing how many people actually think the myths are true is also an interesting study in human psychology...
