Codeine-Promethazine cough syrup side effect?
I recently got prescirbed the stuff for a horrible cough that I have. It works well, but I notice that about an hour after I dose I get a loud ringing in my ears, my vision fades in and out, and if I stand up I am very prone to falling/passing out for no longer than a few seconds. After that I feel absolutely fine. Is this a normal side effect of promethazine, or is this something to be worried about?
Also, this effect seems to coincide with my smoking. However, I can stop that easily, I guess I just like lighting up when I'm sedated. Is there any relation there?

that is very common with this codeine. the same thing happens with me. the only thing you can really do is just take smaller doses, but maybe you don't want to do that?

Prometh is a very strong sedative. The side effects you are experiencing are common for this drug. Smoking will definitely increase these effects and you should really try to reduce or even quit smoking while using this medicine.

DM is dextramathoraphane which a cough inhibitor G benzathine is a antibiotic of the penicillin class/ Usually a penicillin will end withthe letters..... llin or cillin.

Both the meds in your cough syrup are narcotic. You should take it only before you are getting ready to lie down, and dont take more than the directed dose. And yes, smoking will enhance the narcotic effects.
