New York/NYC help!!!?
OK. So I have NEVER been to New York, but I do know that it's loud, busy, crowded, and that there's amazing shopping and nightlife activities. Well, that's what I think of when I hear NYC. The New York site (http://www.iloveny.com/home.aspx) say's that there's so much outdoor activities to do, and that there's loads of nature parks and museums in the state of New York and NYC! See, I'm writing a book and my character just moved away from a place like that, which is a quaint and quiet nature and wilderness based town. And I wanted her to move to a place that is the EXACT opposite of that, which I thought was NYC. But apparently it's the greenest city according to this wesite- http://www.sixwise.com/Newsletters/2008/June/25/Th... -and the crazy thing is that all of the other most populated busy towns are also the top greenest towns!
I guess what I'm asking is, is there a crowded, busy, loud, annoying city IN AMERICA that's nothing but concrete, buildings and streets? My main character is NOT a city person. She's a nature woodsy lover. I don't want her to come to a city like New York and find that it's full of peace, quite, and wild life. Which is what I'm starting to be convinced that it is. (The idea of a peaceful, green New York to me is absolutely CRAZY!)
Please help! I don't know what to do!!
Thank you! =3
Yes people, I know you think I'm stupid! But I too also think that a peaceful, quite New York IS INSANE! (Did y'all not read the last sentence??) But apparently, the websites I went to made me think otherwise. So please understand-I don't smoke, I think that a peaceful, wilderness filled New York City is crazy ( that's why I was asking for help!), and thanks again for all the help!!!

What?? I don't know what you've been smoking, dude, but New York City is NOT "full of peace, quiet, and wild life," not even a little bit, so, don't worry about it, write your grittiest prose, set it in New York City, and you'll be just fine.
Good luck, and the link below is to a webpage about some of the Grit And Glamor of New York City, and the 2nd link, which is a "How Not To Look Like A Tourist In NYC" page, I'm suggesting as an example of NY attitude...

um, wow, jsut reading that, made no sense at all. u need to go back and read what u just wrote. but meanwhile- let me clear stuff up for u.
NYC? green, peaceful, and quite? ARE U INSANE? ik uve never been there but u must have seen it in movies or something. u know, NYC is one of the most crowded, busiest, nosiest places in the world.
UPSTATE new york on the other hand is filled with mountains and greenery and ski resorts and log cabins, and lake houses. so maybe THAT could fit the bill of "green, peace, and quiet"..
what in the world would make u think NYC is peaceful and quiet? its fun, loud, outgoing, and busy as hell! there are thousands of visitors everyday, and everyday in NYC is different.
i think the site where u got ur info is wacked up.

such things exist but theyre hard to come by, but manhattan would be an ideal setting unless you set it in tokyo or something, or you could just make up a setting, but new york would be the best
