Tailing Redfish, my favorite thing in the world. I NEVER throw topwater plugs at tailers. they don't see it until it get's right up on them, and then it spooks them. Almost anytime I'm sightfishing I throw a StrikeKing Shadalicious rigged on a keelweighted hook.

stay as far away from the fish as possible, throw just past the tail and work it back really slow under the fish. If it's a school of reds, throw out in front and let it sit, jigging it slowly. For more info email me

*chuckles at F_K* You know me too well, huh?
Here's the thing with reds... sometimes when they're tailing, what they're after is ALL that they're after... I've seen days where everyone says "Oh, they're not hitting anything" and you find the one or two people who found what they WERE hitting and you get a completely different story. You try shrimp or mullet when all they're after that day are young blue crabs and you'll see what I mean. (Which it seems you're already seeing what I mean)
Try switching it up, I see you're using artificials, maybe one of the many shrimp or crab lures on the market will work for you when your usuals don't... I've had real good luck with Gulp shrimp on jigheads, D.O.A. shrimp work pretty well... (I'm more live-bait personally, but every now and then I use some artifiicials for a change of pace...) I had some little soft plastic crabs that I think were locally made that worked alright, too...
Edit: that's a great point that i didn't even think about that brandon brought up... when they're tailing, all their attention is on the bottom... topwater won't do crap.

Whats with the thumbs down?!!! Brandon answered this Q perfectly. He is completely correct. There are "runs" of preferably baits during a season- Shrimp, Pogy/Menhaden, & Mullet. I've seen Reds turn there nose up at a Live Shrimp to get to a 4" Mullet! Brandon gets my vote for best answer. (Thumbs to KOF - good answer too!) Cheers!

When your see them finning cast right on top of them with a popping cork with shrimp and they will either react to it by eating it or they will be scared and swim away. If that doesn't work then cast the popping cork a couple of feet away from them.

when you see them tailing this is the perfect time for fly fishing. a small clouser or deceiver fly in the color of the local baitfish will work.
