I enjoyed it for my birthday in March of 08, but that's because I'm a boxing nut. It is very small (2 little buildings), and not up to the stand our great sport deserves to be honest. The only time to go there and for it to really be worth while is during an induction weekend because then a lot of the Hall Of Famers are there and they have parades, autograph signing, a banquet, etc. The best thing there is a small gift shop.
I say go sometime but make it a part of a trip that includes something else. Cooperstown is not far. If you can make it a 2 for one (Baseball and Boxing Hall Of Fame...but that might make Canastota even look worse. Go to the website. It has a virtual tour.

i have been there 5 times now. In 1991,1992,1993,2003 and in June. For me it is a 5 hour drive. The best time to go is the first or second week of June for induction ceremonies. The card memorabilia show is outstanding. Also many fighters from the past are there then. If you go any other time it might be empty.

I have never been there, but here in New Mexico we have the Int'l Space Hall of Fame. It is about 7 hours from here and I tell ya, if my parents wanted to take me there for my birthday I would have loved it. I am 32, and I would still love it.
Do it... take a lot of pictures so he'll remember it.
