I think my computer has been infected?

I have AVG but I think I have a virus on my computer. Something popped up and said I have infected files and I think I may have downloaded something I wasn't supposed to because it looked like it was legit....any suggestions?

Update:

I think it is called Personal Antivirus......however when I go somewhere to try to remove it. It won't let me in the site........do I have to take it somewhere?

Its probably not a true virus, but some other malicious software. It is very common to see false virus/spyware programs installing on a computer, and trying to get you to pay for removal.

Like previous poster said, download and install malwarebytes. I would suggest running your scan in safe mode though, because some malicious software is stubborn and hard to remove in regular full running windows.

to get into safe mode, repeatedly strike F8 as the computer is booting, then choose safe mode from the menu.

What you have is Rogue antispyware program Personal AntiVirus in your system.

    To get rid of it:

You need a program called Spyhunter. Download it here:

There are full instructions if you get stuck getting rid of it

Install and run Spyhunter and then your be fine.

Make sure you have an up-to-date antivirus installed, such as AVG Free Edition at:
