A school is where you are going to learn the basics of your rate. I was an FT. A school was 19 weeks where I learned basic electricity, basic electronics, RADAR special electronics and other basic electronics The most useful for when you get out of the Navy.

The C school I attended was specific for the MK 63 Gun Fire Control System. C schools are for a specific type of system. Not going to mean much when you get out of the Navy.

How do you enroll in a C school? You don't. If your command thinks you need the school they may send you or you can request it.

By the way after I went to school I never saw another 63 system in all my time in the Navy. I hope they are smarter now. When I finally did hit the fleet I found myself in charge of the MK 37 Gun Fire Control System on the ship, No school. Had to learn it on my own.

A school is where you are going to learn what is going to help you in the civilian world.

you don't just enroll, your command must send you there. not all ratings have C schools and in some cases you are not eligible for a C school right away.

most C schools do NOT translate directly to civilian certification so you will still need to test out or in some cases take the civilian schooling before you will be accorded any recognition.
