Career in Graphic Arts after college?

Im taking visual communications this fall in college. Have any of you got a good job in the Graphic Arts field right after school? If you have what is it that you do?

If you are really good at what you do, the best place to start your career is at an advertising agency. If your skills are not up to their high standards, do not worry - if you are persistent, you will reach that level of excellence!

You might want to start freelancing your talents or doing unpaid internships at local web development studios or graphic design studios until you learn the secrets of the pros.

Good graphic design salaries range from $33,000 a year up to $45,000 a year but if you are a creative director for a company or owner of a company, that pay scale will double or more.

For you to "consider" a career in graphic arts all that's required is the desire to learn and the attitude to work hard at what you want to become. Seriously, people that will tell you that you're not good enough yet haven't gone to art school and still do not understand that this pursuit isn't about talented people learning more techniques to become even more talented. Like any other subject you're going to go to school to learn. It helps to know something about what will be taught, but its not a requirement. Even if you're skills weren't up to par, that's what the Beginning Art classes are for. Good luck to you and I hope you stick it out. If you do want to "level up" a bit before or during college you should check out a book called "(the new) Drawing on the right side of the brain". I've seen classmates go from stick figure to figure drawings with using this book so check it out (see link).
