How do I know if this job is legit or is it a scam?

I applied for a Personal Assistant position from an ad posted on Craigs List. I got a response basically saying I Got the job. I will be working from home, doing errands, booking flights, etc.. our communication will be all via phone/email as he travels a lot. He is abroad right now and wants me to do a couple errand this week to test me. He has me handling his business things without interviewing me or even doing a background check. He gave me his name and basic info, he say he is a lawyer. I am responding to his email but I want to know what questions I Can ask to make sure its legit but without offending him if it is for real. Can anyone give me any ideas how I can ask these questions in a better way?

Come on. Anybody who needs help has their choice of people to hire. Why would they hire a stranger? He'd have a nephew or niece or even a neighbors son or daughter he could hire and at least know something about them. Any "lawyer" that hires somebody without interviewing them is trying to scam you. He'll probably have you spend money doing these errands or the errands will turn out to be illegal. You may wind up acting as a mule, receiving packages and forwarding them only to find out later that they have drugs in them. There are just far too many possibilities for this to turn out bad for your. You're really putting yourself at risk. Don't ask questions, simply tell him you're not able to accept and stop any communications with him.

Most likely a scam. A legit job doesn't ask for your gender. That's illegal in the hiring process in the US. A legit offer would already know your name and e-mail. You would have sent them that information or they would have got it through an online service like Monster. Out of the blue job offers are 99% scams.

Well certainly don't lay out any of your own money or credit info to anyone on this individuals behalf.

You can check your state bar association and phone books to see if this person is listed and if the numbers given are the same.

This sounds a tad bit fishy to me...
