From the moment the boys land on the island, we begin to see signs of destruction. Over and over we are told of the “scar” in the scenery left by the plane.

The movies aren't really reliable sources.

It was the plane that crashed on the island that made the scar. The plane was taking the boys away from a war situation and either caught fire or was bombed.

It was the plane that was carrying the boys crashing to the island, mowing down trees and scarring the ground. So, scar.

The Lord of the flies is definitely the pigs head. even if if it is symbolic for the devil and Simon is confronting him like Christ. evidence is "you recognize completely nicely which you're taking place there with me". even nonetheless Simon is imaging it, on some deep connection he's speaking to him. The devil is familiar with that there is evil in all and sundry and he needs Simon to stop from proving that there isn't any "beast" and from the reality from popping out. Then the youngsters will stop worshipping the devil.

yups twas the plane crashing into the island. this can be seen as a metaphor, that the things that are man made have 'crash landed' on earth, causing a scar on the land in terms of what you can think of (theres alot of them :P) did this meself in high school (college in america) and the teacher analysed every sentence till we got sick of it :P.

It was either the plane or the fire that scared the island.

Source(s): I watched the movie a long time ago and I might or might not be right or wrong.
