2005 Ford F-250, Crew Cab, 4X4, Powerstroke Turbo Diesel, Automatic, and loaded. Good truck yes or no?
Okay I really need everyones help PLEASE!!! I am looking to buy a 2005 Ford F-250, Crew Cab, 4X4, Powerstroke 6.0L Turbo Diesel, Automatic transmission, and fully loaded!!!(Not Leather though) But, the truck has 180,000 miles on it. That's the part I don't like!!! I am assuming they are all highway miles though and they are asking $12,500 but I will try and get them to lower it. My question is HOW MUCH LONGER WILL THIS THING LAST MILES WISE? I hear they will go at least 300,000 miles before needing any major repair work. I have been hearing a lot that these 6.0L Turbo Diesel's SUCK though!!!(But this is a 2005, not the newer generation 6.0L Turbo Diesel's) Is this true that they suck??? My main question though is just how much longer will this thing last. I am using it to drive to school which is about 4 miles from my house.(So obviously I am not going to put a lot of wear and tear on it) Please ANSWER my following questions THANK YOU to everyone who answers!!!

the early 2003 models of the 6.0 were the ones that had troubles 2005 is o.k. and 2002 back 7.3's are also just fine.
from your question the only problem that i see is your lack of use [the engine will never warm up to operating Temperature on such short runs] especially in the coming winter months [you will want to keep the block heater plugged in overnight to help keep the temperature stable] and have some heater output when you first take off.
if the truck in question was properly maintained
and never abused and you keep up with all the services when they are due. there will be no time or mileage limit on these engines or drive-trains
good luck
Source(s): note : a friend has an older 7.3 with 600,000 plus miles on it only things that ever wore out are the clutches [manual transmission] and the drivers seat the truck is still immaculate.[yes he bought new cushions and upholstery and leather wrapped steering wheel from ford] - Anonymous6 years ago

I personally wouldn't buy it but if you are only driving a few miles a day and if you leave the motor stock(no chip, nothing) then you should be just fine. The problems that most people talk about is when they try to get more power and the motor just wasnt designed for all these aftermarket accessories. If it were me I'd still do all the reccommended upgrades for the motor even if I didn't put a chip in it or anything. Take that $12,500 and go buy an older Super Duty with the 7.3L and you will not be let down, EVER! I'd buy a 99-03 Super Duty with the 7.3L even if it had 500,000 thousand miles if I could get the history on how it was driven, where it was driven and all that.

The F250 is a very nice truck and does have lots of power for a diesel. Although, I've heard that they are having problem with the newer 6.0 compared to the 7.1. You are using the truck for a very short distance, I would recommend something smaller such as the F150. The F250 is a work horse and will require high maintenance for the turbo to run right. As for how long the engine will last, it is International engine and should last over 300K miles with proper maintenance.

with a 180K on it the price is HIGH !!! the 250s are fine, so get a vin#, go to a dealer and ask for a service records on it, if every service was done on time, with no problems, then U can negotiate about the price...
FORD TRUCKS ARE GOOD, my friends truck is F-350 '83 with a 351 engine and it has about 800K on it now used as a work truck every day on a farm and in a car shop, has dents, rust ware, but still running

im a big ford fan here and first of all if a truck got over 100000 miles on it should cost thes then 10000. second you might might be able to make it to 250000 with it but i doubt it. it seems that 4x4 seem to last shorter with the milage. and right now its not a god time to buy a diesel truck. i recomend to bet and f 150 and if you want it to look bigger the lift kits for the ford trucks and cheap and easy to install overall dont buy that truck bad investment might only get like 2 years maybe out of it probably less

first they want too much money for it, second its out of waranty, so when, not if, you need it to be repaired, have 5000 bucks stashed away for repairs. I'm not a ford hater, I love them, but I work at a dealership so I know which ones to stay away from. we use to do head jobs on 6.0 3-4 a week. granted thats a small number compared to what is on the road, but I wouldn't gamble it.

I actually would just assume his brain is small. Why would he buy a FORD? Edit: Buying a Ford isn't dumb, just buying a new Ford is. Doesn't he know it will be worth less than half of what he paid for it next year?
