simple question about glucose tolerance?

I'm about to take the 3-hour Maternal Glucose Tolerance test, and for the next 3 days I'm on a 150g carb diet. Here's the thing: the 'diet' they suggested is almost identical to what I am already eating (pasta and bread, fruits, etc)

My question is twofold

1) will the fact that my body already eats that kind of diet affect the results in any way?

2) did the fact that I was on that diet skew the results of the 1-hour test I did last week, thus requiring me to take the 3-hours test.

I'm not looking to alter the data here, just trying to understand the process. I want to be healthy and get to full term because I'm already high risk.

Background: I started pregnancy at 122lb (5'4") and am now at 160lb. Vegetarian (+ fish 3 times a week) taking Prenate DHA, age 38, at 30 weeks gestation. Thanks all!!!

Update:

Yes, they want to see how your body adjusts to high carb for 3 days before the testing. I guess GD is different form type 1 or 2 diabetes in this respect. I'd love to get a negative on the test but I don't want to mess the results because I want me and baby to be healthy, but it's a little scary, that's all :) Thanks ladies!!!

You were told to eat pasta and breads? I'm surprised since those are very high in carbohydrates. Just follow doctors advice and you should be fine. If your diet was same as what you are told to follow now then it wouldn't skew results. Best of Luck.

The GTT is a attempt to determine the physique's ability to metabolise[burn up or save] glucose. After a evening's fasting, a blood pattern is taken. A prevalent quantity of glucose answer, oftentimes one hundred twenty five ml to 200ml of flat lucozade, is under the effect of alcohol observed via a 2d blood attempt 2 hours later. effects come decrease back interior a week and point out in spite of if or not the glucose have been "used up" interior the two hours. Any glucose ultimate after 2 hours shows a project with the two the physique's blood insulin levels [this hormone gets rid of residual glucose and shops it as glycogen interior the liver] or a greater prevalent project with the physique's cells transforming into " insulin resistant" i.e. dropping the flexibility to absorb glucose from the bloodstream. the two state of affairs capacity there's a threat that diabetes is coming up. you will desire to seek for advice from which incorporate your well-being group in the event that they insist in this attempt and determine the want/reason for it.

That's strange they would put you on a diet. But it's very good that it's what you would normally eat. They probably want to make sure you don't suddenly start dieting, which will (falsely) give you better numbers on your test.
