Where can I kayak in manhattan?

I am going to nyc next weekend and I thought it would be cool to go kayaking, what is the best place to do this?

    I wouldn't kayak around Manhatan. The tides in both the Hudson and East Rivers are extremely strong and unpredictable. It's hard enough to pilot a regular boat. A kayak would be almost a nightmare.

    If you don't mind the noise of commercial aircraft overhead , the area of Jamaica Bay/Gateway National Recreation Area is not a bad place to be exploring

    If you time it right , you can float in and out with the tide.

    Stay out in the shallows out of the channels and you're good to go
