How do I level a concrete floor with a drain?

I have a concrete floor in my basement laundry room. The floor isn't level and I want to level it so I can put tile down. However there is a drain in the middle of the floor and I can't cover it over.

How can I level the floor without harming the drain?

Update:

Does is make sense for me to just try and smooth out the rough patches and forget the tile?

Normally the floor should slope towards the drain .

There is an epoxy-concrete floor leveling mix that does seem to be quit good , you may have to work in sections . You must find the highest and lowest areas and section so it levels , this can be somewhat a job in itself .

If you weren't concerned about the drain or you could raise the drain you could flood the floor with the epoxy set up as slow set and let it self level (this must be pretty wet so it flows.

Typically in your type of situation you would not want to level the floor. The floor slopes so that the water goes to the drain. If you level it and later your washing machine overflows, where will the water go? I would tile it with the existing slope. You can raise the drain cover with some longer screws and some shim material. Sloping floors are why laundry machines have adjustable feet.

if the drain is square get a few pieces of wood or another material and place them together to create a square tube so to speak.

stand it uprite over the drain and bond it to the drain so when its cemented the cement does not cover or go down the drain, p.s BUY SELF LEVELING CEMENT FOR THE JOB U WISH TO DO
