We tend to have a light-hearted stereotype of Americans that they're fat, stupid, have never left the USA and know nothing about the world outside of their own country, but I think most of us are worldly-wise enough to know that we can't judge individuals on a stereotype and so we tend to take Americans as we find them.

Am I unhappy that my ancestors stayed in this country? Of course not! I'm very proud to be English/British and wouldn't change it for the world. I've met a few Americans who seem to be under the impression that the whole world wants to be American and live in America but as you've seen from the answers above that really isn't the case. We're just as proud to be British as you are to be American!

Erm, yes i am happy that my ancestors chose to stay here,

are you asking if i'd rather be an American?

    lol.

And as for Americans, i tend to look at them individually instead of as a whole, everyones different and there will be the good and bad.

I'm very happy to be English. I wouldn't choose any other nationality, nor would I want to live anywhere else.

As for emigrating, my Irish ancestors are more likely to have been sent to Australia rather than have chosen it.

I'm half English and half Scottish and wouldn't trade it for anything. I annoys me so much when Americans go on about how they're part Irish/Scottish whatever, because they were their Great-great Grandfathers. You're American ok?

I even have stumbled on - i'm in South Africa - that human beings who pass to our us of a are loud and coach offy and brash. They brag lots approximately being American. this is the only adventure I even have with human beings.
