Ideas for making a couple of headboards?
I'm pretty handy and artistic, so i'm open to any techniques. I was thinking of the upholstered type at first, but i think i'd rather try something different. I'd love to hear as many suggestions as possible, as i might use more than one. Links also helpful if you know of any pictures or instructions, but just ideas are great, too! Thank you so much. :)

Really anything can be used for a headboard, but it depends if you want to lean on it for reading or not. I love watching HGTV shows - they always have neat ideas for making custom headboards.
If you don't want to do an upholstered one, I've seen old wooden doors, wrought iron, painted, fabric pulled on frame, picket fence - whatever goes. If you have a "theme" try to go with that.
It could even be a series of small floating shelves with photos or artwork. The headboard mainly serves as a focal point in the room so be creative.

I saw this on "Get it Sold".
Buy enough art canvases to span the width of your bed. (Usually 3 will do it.)
Paint the background a solid light color, your choice. Some suggestions: turquoise, gray, or tan. You can even use regular house paint.
After the paint is completely dry, place the canvases together so they touch. Paint sticks going across them with dark brown or black paint. Make the sticks interesting by adding branches and bends to them. (Not just straight lines.) Also paint the sticks at an angle, not just straight across.
Then add leaves to the sticks with the same dark paint.
The sticks should cross right over the canvases so they look like one big piece of art.
After you're done and all the paint has dried, hang these canvases as a headboard.
If you want, you can reverse the colors…making the background dark and the branches light.
Another option: buy a picket fence from a home improvement store. Attach the fence to the wall above your bed.
A third option: Attach a fireplace screen to the wall over your bed.
