Is this plagiarizing?

Is this plagiarizing?

i wanted to paint a tiger so i printed out a couple of picture online and encorporated it in my painting to make a portrait of a tiger. Do I need permission from the owner of these photos to use their photos. I might also be sending this painting to an art competition. Is this considered as "copying" others work.

'Technically' you do - it depends. Did you literally 'copy' his portrait of a tiger? Or did you just simply use them as examples?

Everyone is allowed to use an example, if you make exact copies however - that would infringement or 'plagiarizing'.

If it doesn't truly benefit you, especially not in regard of financial/material means, it's unlikely it will break you up. The artist most likely won't mind.

But if you plan on truly making 'art out of it' or making money with it, I strongly advise asking permission. It's really not worth the mess and emberassment in case you do get caught.

Really the only way you can absolutely get caught with plagiarism is if you were to cut out that artist's pictures and put those exact pictures in some sort of collage without giving credit.

And I don't even know if that would be considered plagiarism.

i wouldn't say that's plagiarizing. that's pretty much the same thing as printing a picture out of a tiger and putting it on a poster or something for a school project.

  • if you directly copy it then yes, it is plagiarism, and how you use it may or may not be allowed depending on the rules of the competition.

As long as you didn't directly copy it then you are fine. Think of it this way, no one in the world has done anything without inspiration.

If it is NOT your own WORK, then you need PERMISSION from the owner in ORDER to use it!

ESPECIALLY if you are going to use it in a PUBLIC DISPLAY where other ppl can see it!

Naw unless u like edited the image and THEN used it as ur own... If u took it as "insparasion" no one will really know..

Source(s): I mean edit as in u did something on photoshop or something like that.

If you just looked off it and didnt copy it exactly than I dont see how it is plagerizing.

But if you copied it exactly than yes it is
