I used the diaphragm successfully many years ago together with an anti spermicidal cream. It's ok, you have to leave it in for 8 hours after sex, it can be a bit messy and you have to know when to 'be prepared'!!

Best fitted at the Family Planning Clinic who will teach you how to use and care for it.

Obviously I haven't used one personally - I'm a bloke. But my girlfriend uses one and she thinks it's great. She's had it for about 18 months. Not being a fan of chemical methods, she opted for a barrier method. It was initially inserted by a doctor, and has never given her any bother, has never led to infection and has prevented pregnancy. So pretty successful all round.
