Spanish for Homeschooling?
What is the best way for my homeschooled kids to learn spanish? I was considering Rosetta Stone, but it is expensive. I don't mind if it's worth it. Has anyone used it?

Hey JP,
I would suggest against a college class, as the focus would be more on studying and achieving a grade than actually learning Spanish.
Rosetta Stone is expensive, but is an excellent program. I've used it personally, and many parents whom home school choose to use it.
Get:

If you are serious about them learning Spanish, otherwise levels 1, 2 & 3 will be fine.
Now an alternative (and much more affordable - just under $100) is this:

To be honest, I feel like this program would actually be more suitable for your children (and easier on your wallet). The program has much more variety than Rosetta Stone (so it's more engaging), and struck me as a little more 'fun' whereas Rosetta Stone's effectiveness comes from it's pure ability to hammer concepts into your head.
Can't go wrong with either, although I would suggest the second one I mentioned simply because it's more affordable and will probably be just as if not more effective in teaching your kids spanish as Rosetta Stone.

How old are your children? If they are 16+, I'd recommend community college courses. If they are younger, if you belong to a homeschooling support group, try to find other kids to set up a co-op course. You could hire a native speaker as a group. Rosetta Stone is a good program, but it is limited by the lack of human to human interaction. The thing about language is you really need interaction to learn a language. Think about a baby and how he/she learns to speak. Mom and Dad speak to the baby. A baby who isn't spoken to doesn't learn to speak. There are some online games and activities for learning Spanish for young kids if you'd like them to be exposed to Spanish. Just do a google search.

You can take dance categories at a studio close you or signal up a the closest health club and even simply jog round your vicinity. For Spanish, Rosetta Stone DVDs! I take artwork categories for my optionally available and my mom teaches me dwelling economics.
