fast food / restaurant employees, help... ?

is it a requirement to wear gloves when preparing foods? earlier today, i was at papa gino's (an east coast pizzeria) and i noticed something kind of strange. there was a girl putting frozen fries into another container, and she was wearing thin gloves. to the immediate left of her, was a girl making a pizza who was sprinkling cheese and pepperonis on top of the pizza with her bare hands. i am wondering whether or not this is acceptable or does it just depend on the restaurant?

It Depends on the restaurant and whether or not it's fast food. Burger King sells cheap burgers but once you go in there you notice no one is wearing gloves. The cashiers handle money and have to get the food to you. Their competition McDonalds wears gloves, in order to keep things sanitary. So it really does depend on the restaurant. But I'd say at Papa Ginos some employees are probably required and others aren't. Maybe the lady with the frozen fries needs the gloves because she doesn't have time to wash her hands but on the other hand, the pizza girl is probably one of the chefs who has time to wash their hands and prepare food but do nothing else. Or...The pizza lady was breaking the rules by not wearing gloves.

Hope that pizza girl wasn't making what you ordered ;)

depends. a. they should wash their hands and then wear gloves. however b. its rare nowadays that they enforce it.

    c. they should have food handlers cards as well. which TRAINS ppl to wear gloves, and wash hands at least every 30 minutes, between every task, and if you touch your body, face, hair, eat, drink or be merr.. er smoke cigarettes. let alone touching the trash, or wash trays.

and 99% of restaurants are way too busy for ppl to do that 999/1000 times.

Source(s): worked for restaurants for 14+ years, and sometimes you just do not want to know. you eat your food. and pray.

It depends on the restaurant. They should be washing their hands thoroughly whether they wear gloves or not.

It depends on the resturant. Technically yes, but thats just not the way it really happens. As long as they wash their hands it'll be ok.

It also depends on the state and the health department rules in that state.
