Quality of Life and Salary Scales?

Hi,

I've been offered a job in trinidad and Tobago as a Graphic and Web Designer. What are the living standards in Trinidad. What Salary in US$ should be expected of such a position.

What are the cost of living - interms of rent , transport and food.

Any help will highly be appreciated.

Replying to "tkseven" the house there do have air conditioning you get more than 4 or 5 channels. she makes it seem like we are primitive here it all depends on where you are just because you husbands family live like that doesn't mean the whole of trinidad live like that. But yes, visit the island for a little bit and get a feel of it. don't just stay in tourist areas try to get immersed into the environment because your going to have to live there.

I tell you I'm married to a Trini and I'm an American. I've been to Trinidad 4 times. The last time we went for a month and the time before we went for 3 weeks. After about 2 weeks I'm about ready to come back to the states. I really enjoy seeing my husband's family but I don't know if I could go longer than a month over there. It's hot and it rains a lot. I'm not sure what kind of living arangement's you'd have but our family home doesn't have a/c, hotwater, sometimes water is in short supply, unless you have satalite there are only 4 or 5 tv stations, the internet is slow, because there is no a/c the windows have to stay open and lots of bug's get in and at night you get eat up by mosquito's. You need to like to eat curry and be prepared to pay A LOT for groceries. Example: one small jar of mayo is 41 TandT dollars. That would be 6.83 US dollars. Taxi rides are pretty reasonable about 5 TandT from Penal to San Franando and Maxi is only 3. Have no Idea how much rent is. I agree with the other answer you should go over a couple of weeks and check it out. My favorite part is going to the market in Debe and having Doubbles and a banana Solo. And there is a lovely place up north high in the mountains called the Aca Wright Nature Center....well worth the long drive up, but be prepared it's a long narrow winding road that's ALL up hill.....let someone who is used to the road's over there drive. Last but NOT LEAST....go to Maracus Beach and have some Shark and Bake. Be carefull in the water over there (broken glass) and don't pick up the prayer jar's out of the water or off the beach.

-- According to International Monetary Fund, per capita income for Trinidad and and Tobago is pretty high ($20k).

Somehow I doubt this -- I was making a quarter of that, and I have a degree and had what was considered a 'good job'. People who own their own businesses might make that kind of money. Most people in their 20s make half that amount, IF that much.

Also it is ridiculously hard to find a place to rent. You better have a LOT of money for rent if you want to live somewhere decent and safe. Rent is VERY expensive.

According to International Monetary Fund, per capita income for Trinidad and and Tobago is pretty high ($20k). If I were you, I'd go spend a week there so you can see if you want to live on a big, barely populated island like Tobago (probably not much to do there).
