What is your view on male nurses?

I want to be a male nurse, I know there is that stereotypical category that male nurses are viewed as gay (I know it's immature, but I hear it all the time). What do you think of male nurses?

I want to work in A & E

but I don't want to study for 7 years to be a Doctor.

Dude, if you are straight think of all the female nurses out there working long hours in close proximity to you.

    Happy hunting.

I work with several male nurses and none of them are gay. It is a myth. Males are filling the shortages everywhere, and doing it all. Once it was a rare thing to see a male nurse, but now they are everywhere.

I just spent the night at the hospital with my Dad. His nurse was a man named Bob. I couldn't have made it through the night without him! He was great, and there was nothing gay about him.

Go for it. We need more male nurses. Good luck!

It sounds stupid/gay but in reality it's not. Although a serious amount of men who work in hospitals ARE gay. I hope you are aware of that...

Anyway it's cool. It's not that male nurses are thought of as gay, it's that nurses are completely seen as female. So it's weird, not gay.

You take a minute to go 'oh' and readjust the image. They are stereotypically seen as female. 100%.

I've worked with several male nurses over the past 20+ years and i think they are great! My brother works in the E.R. of a major hospital.

i work in psych--so we are always thrilled to have male nurses--as some of our unruly patients do better with a male nurse.

I say to go for it--It is a great profession and one to be very proud of.

I think that male nurses are great, but I also think that males change their minds about their jobs and quit a lot more than females.

I want to be a male nurse too so I think it's fine.

No doubt you will get many weird looks by some people when you claim to be a nurse. That's because when most of us think of a nurse, we think of a woman. I'm not trying to sound sexist here, I'm just pointing out how our society thinks.

I think male nurses are great.

As a matter of fact, a male nurse saved my life once.

So, do what your heart tells you and follow your dream.

Don't worry about what others think.

    Good Luck.
