African Grey Congo and peanuts?

My husband found that he can get love from our AFC by giving him peanuts...My question is ....isn't there a limit on how many peanuts a bird can have in one day?

Peanuts are good nutrition but also fairly high fat and contain oxalates which parrots can't clear easily. I wouldn't feed him more than 3 or 4 each day. That's assuming they're unsalted - you shouldn't feed him any salted peanuts.

You also want to be careful of aflatoxins. Don't feed him any peanuts that aren't dry or look dirty or moldy. Only feed him peanuts sold for human consumption - the standards for animal feed allow way too much aflatoxin.

The thing that I would be concerned about would be mold. Peanuts are the number one carrier of aspergillus. In place of peanuts try almonds but no more than 2 or 3 a day.

LOL my timneh is the same way, she will do just about anything for a peanut.... I don't know if there's a limit, usually she lets me know by not eating any more of them, they are pretty smart that way. I buy roasted unsalted peanuts and get organic ones when my health food store has them.

The salt is bad for them, but if you can get unsalted peanuts they should be fine, of course I would use this as a treat for when he is good and shows love for you and not all the time.

IDK, but I would not give more than 20 or 30 per day.

Hope I could help! Good luck! :]
