What is a basic sheppards pie recipe?
I just need a basic recipe with the mahsed potatoes, corn,and hamburger. And do you think it would be okay to put cheese on top of it?

Easy Shepherd's Pie Recipe
Ingredients
--1 1/2 lbs ground round beef
--1 onion chopped
--1-2 cups vegetables - chopped carrots, corn, peas
--1 1/2 - 2 lbs potatoes (3 big ones)
--8 tablespoons butter (1 stick)
--1/2 cup beef broth
--1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
--Salt, pepper, other seasonings of choice
Method
1 Peel and quarter potatoes, boil in salted water until tender (about 20 minutes).
2 While the potatoes are cooking, melt 4 Tablespoons butter (1/2 a stick) in large frying pan.
3 Sauté onions in butter until tender over medium heat (10 mins). If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time. Put any carrots in with the onions. Add corn or peas either at the end of the cooking of the onions, or after the meat has initially cooked.
4 Add ground beef and sauté until no longer pink. Add salt and pepper. Add worcesterchire sauce. Add half a cup of beef broth and cook, uncovered, over low heat for 10 minutes, adding more beef broth as necessary to keep moist.
5 Mash potatoes in bowl with remainder of butter, season to taste.
6 Place beef and onions in baking dish. Distribute mashed potatoes on top. Rough up with a fork so that there are peaks that will brown nicely. You can use the fork to make some designs in the potatoes as well.
7 Cook in 400 degree oven until bubbling and brown (about 30 minutes). Broil for last few minutes if necessary to brown.

Cheese would be good on the top. You can add the cheese 10 minutes before it finishes cooking.

Meat Loaf Pie
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
* 1 pound ground beef
* 1 small onion, chopped
* 1 egg
* 1 tablespoon ketchup
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 1 (8.75 ounce) can whole kernel corn
* 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
* 2 cups prepared mashed potatoes
* 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook and stir the ground beef and onion until beef is evenly brown. Drain, and allow to cool slightly.
3. In a bowl, mix the cooked beef and onion, egg, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.
4. Spread the corn in the bottom of the pie crust. Layer with the beef mixture. Spoon the mashed potatoes over the beef, and top with cheese.
5. Bake 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.

This dish is fairly simple to make.
Cook 1 pound of hamburger and drain
In a casserole dish (I use a round one) mix the cooked hamburger and 1 can of cream of mushroom soup (you can also use cream of celery) add a little bit of milk so its creamy. After mixed put corn then mashed potatoes on top. I normally put put a few slices of margarine and a couple pieces of cheese. Bake at 350 till butter is melted. Normally about 15 - 20 minutes.
Tip: Place on a cookie sheet in case of overflow in the oven.

Shepherds Pie
Brown the ground lamb with some chopped onion in oil.
When pinkness is gone, drain any excess fat away.
Mix in a can of vegetable soup or frozen mixed veggies.
Or dice some carrot, & add some peas or corn.
Transfer mixture to a baking dish, spoon mashed potatoes over top.
Press down with tines of a fork to make a pattern.
Dust with paprika for a little colour; or sprinkle on grated cheese.
Bake in 400F oven 30 minutes until bubbly & browned.
Cut into squares to serve with ketchup or steak sauce.

My way is....
Brown the ground beef and onions and drain real good.
Add corn(drained) to meat
1 package gravy or jar/canned gravy
Mix all together
Smear mashed potatoes over the top (mix cheese in potatoes if desired)
Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 30 to 45 min or till golden on top

Mix ground beef with onions, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Add a few tablespoons of beef broth and cook, covered, over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, adding more beef broth as necessary to keep moist. Beat egg yolks until light, then in another bowl, beat whites until stiff. Beat the yolks, cream, 6 tablespoons butter, and garlic powder into hot mashed potatoes. Gently fold in beaten egg whites. Put meat mixture into a casserole then top with potato mixture. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and bake at 350° until potato topping is puffed and browned, about 25 to 35 minutes.

you need mince beef and onion season cook this then put in ovenproof dish cover with mashed potato & cheese, put into the oven to melt the cheese and warm the mince, then enjoy.

sure thats it taters, ground beef and corn is the simplest you can also add peas or any other veg really but thats the most basic cheese is good addition

This a great shepherds pie recipe. You can make your own potatoes instead of instant if you want.
