    16x - 5 = 18x - 2

    -16x = -16x

    ==============

    -5 = 2x - 2

    +2 = +2

    ===========

    -3 = 2x

    -3/2 = 2x/2

    -3/2 = x

    You have to combine like numbers and letters

    First start by adding the two to each side (Thus cancelling the 2 from the right side)

    So you have 16x-3=18x

    Now combine the X's by subtracting 16x from either side

    -3=2x

    You need to get the x alone. So, divide each side by 2

    You end up with x=-3/2

    Take the total equation and divide by 2. 2(8x^2+38x+40 5) Then then make into 2 binomials.... (2x+5)(4x+9) then ur answer must be 2(2x+5)(4x+9) Then examine multiply by.

    subtract 16x from both sides

    add 2 to both sides

    divide what's remaining.

    16x - 5 = 18x - 2

    -16x -16x

    -------------------------------

    -5 = 2x - 2

    +2 +2

    ------------------------------

    -3 = 2x

    -3/2 = 2x/2

    -3/2 = x
