Pawn shops.
They have some decent equipment for reasonable prices. Just make sure to test the equipment in the store and ask for at least a 30 day return, in case something happens soon after you buy it. Most will be happy to deal this way because they want to make a sale. If they won't refund, they will usually exchange.
