How would you try to "fix" Nascar?

General ground rules: no banning Toyota!

I'm looking for rules changes that might actually lead to good racing. I think the COT and the old car have evolved to produce follow the leader, even if you are significantly faster you can't pass.

Drop the chase and the Top 35 rule and cut all the grounding effects off the front of the COT car. No front-end aero = no aero push = passing (go figure).

Wow theres a lot to read here, so I'm gonna try and not repeat what someone else has said. Here's my take: Yes and No, As far as my yes, on these boards, we can be, it seems like everyone wants to be the smarter guy or the big contibuter. I see so many good answers get thumbs down and it just blows me away. You can tell by reading folks anwsers on who really is being un-bias in their answers, these are the folks that I consider true fans. A fan, wither or not its against their driver or not, we'll answer a question as un-bias as possible. This just my opinion. As far as my no, fact remains, when your at a track, all the silly stuff that gets said here is completly out the window, because no one cares how long someone has been watching a sport, we're there to enjoy what we all enjoy. Thats good hard racing. As a Jr/Harvick fan, I've set with every other drivers fans, we give each other crap, laugh, drink beer and enjoy the racing. I have never one time gotten into an argument with anyone at a track or off these public forums, because when we are off of here, we're real people that cant hide behind a screen name. (by the way, my name is Darrell) If a person chooses to jump from driver to driver, I really dont care, maybe sometimes it takes that for someone to find a driver that is a good fit for them as a fan. I'd just hate to have their bills for hats, collectibles, stickers and so on. You also dont have to wait out winning slumps. But the bashing is by far not because of Kyle and Logano, I remember some band wagon jumping when Jeff Gordon (just to name one driver) first hit the scene and all the bashing that guys jumping over to him were getting. IMO, it's only more prevalent (at least here on this board) because they're are a lot more folks one this board then what there was this time last year. Either way, I think this is a good question, I try not to come accross as a snob, but how folks interpet other folks comments is always up in the air.

I'm going to piggyback on some of the answers already given.

Get rid of the Top 35 rule. Fastest 43 race, regardless of name, rank, reputation, sponsor, etc.

Get rid of past champions provisional.

Get rid of lucky dog rule.

Give each track one race. There is absolutely no need to race at tracks twice. Club racing series do that. A truly professional race series doesn't need to.

    Return to Rockingham.

Allow teams to adjust front ground clearance and rear wing angle. Some may end up with tight cars, some loose. Give teams that flexibility.

First of all, they need to drop the word "stock car racing" from the title and none of the announcers should ever be allowed to say this again. There is nothing "stock" about these cars. A stock Ford Fusion will not run like this, nor does it look the same. Stock is from the warehouse with no modifications. This is an old term, I liked it in the old days when The King drove a Dodge Daytona with the wing and someone else drove a Ford, etc. That more closely resembled "Stock Car" racing.

Dump the chase, get rid of top 35 owners points, get rid of COT, No lucky dog, Have more short track racing. Give the teams alittle more freedom with less rules. Bring back The Rock and Wilkesboro. and get rid of Brian France.

    1. Inverse starting positions!!!!!! fastest cars start last, slower cars up front. give someone like Danica Patrick a chance to win. Now, its like watching cars cruise down the turnpike.

    2. Drive real cars........would love to see a Camaro race against Mustangs, Chargers and Mercedes - Benz.

and it would make it more affordable for local track heroes to go against big money.

    3. forget the chase...........wife and i have stopped watching races because of it.

    4. need smaller tracks............ever been to Pocono?

Make them all IROC cars. IROC cars have the same exact body and engine as every other car. How could you get better racing? The best driver would prevail, like they should and it would save a lot of money on testing and research.

Market into Canada. There is a lot of untapped fan support and talent up here.

If you want to see good racing and make nascar accually interesting then follow these simple instructions. First, everything is legal, whoever crosses the finish-line first wins. no questions asked. Next, mount guns and flamethrowers on top of the cars. put in a second person in each car to operate the weapons. In order to motivate the drivers, execute all surviving losers at the end of each race. Im positive it will make for the greatest "sport" in history

1st and foremost, drop the chase format.

Award bonus points for getting the pole position. Find other ways for bonus points also.
