when you get approved for student aid, such as a pell grant. Do you actually get that amount, or do you only ?

Or do you only get the amount you need for school?

I ve applied, got the pre approval, now waiting on the school. So I dont understand will I get a check for that amount or....what?

    you get the full amount on your award letter BUT the money goes to the school first

    out of that money comes your tuition, other fees, and books

    if there is any money left over from what the government has awarded you, you will then receive a check with the remainder

    so let's say you were awarded 2,500 by the government

    classes are going to cost you 1000

    books are going to cost you 450

    and there are some fees that add up to 50

    that's a total of 1,500

    the remaining 1,000 should be issued to you by check or by deposit

    oh and by the way

    you will only receive the remaining portion after drop/add period

    You sould be getting a check for that amount. You're free to do what you want with the rest of it, if it exceeds the amount you need to actually pay for school.

    Just remember, books are expensive! :(
