It seems like WGN network broadcast way too many Cubs game and less Witesox games ?

I am a W.Sox fan based in Sacramento Ca. and I would like to see more ox than Cubs, I don't know why Cubs always get the royal treatment when it was the sox that recently Won the world Series in that city and have the best pitcher in the game.

Cubs are America's favorite losers that's why.

I prefer the White Sox over the Cubs all day everyday.

Actually, the difference is less than you might think.

The Cubs have 36 games scheduled on WGN -TV this year, while the Sox have 30 games scheduled.

The idea that the Tribune does not pay any fees to the Cubs is false. Although they are owned by the same company, WGN and the Cubs are run as complete separate entities.

The Cubs also get their share of games on Comcast Sportsnet Chicago (Which is owned by the Cubs, White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks - each team having a 25% share) and WCIU (channel 26 in Chicago).

So while there is a difference in the number of games WGN broadcasts for the 2 teams, it is not as large as most people assume. As a White Sox fan , I'm sure it seems like there is, but I'd bet a Cubs fan living out of the Chicago area might feel that there are more Sox games than Cubs games.

And the bottom line to all of it is ratings, my friend. The Cubs simply have more fans, both here in Chicago and around the country. WGN is not in the business of providing a public service, they are in the business of making money. And the Cubs games on WGN simply have better ratings than the White Sox games.

    Not really.

WGN started out showing Cubs games. Naturally, they are going to show more Cubs games. If you want to watch Sox games, you can watch Comcast Sports Net. But, you are out of the Chicago broadcast area, so you may not get them all the time. Don't blame WGN, blame Comcast. They are the ones who don't extend their Sox coverage to the rest of the country.

Besides, the Cubs have a much wider fan-base that spans the country. Bottom line: the Cubs have more fans in more places so it makes more fiscal sense to broadcast what more people are going to watch. WGN is going to show what makes them the most money. If they think they can turn a bigger profit showing Sox games, they will. That means that the Sox either charge WGN too much or there are not enough Sox fans outside the Chicago viewing area.

Plus, the broadcast schedule is starting to even out more.

the cubs are owned by the same company that owns WGN (World's Greatest Newspaper), The Chicago Tribune. So the Cubs are played more often because they dont have to buy and sell the rights to the games. WGN can just bring in the advertising money.

I have been a Sox fan all my life, and it often baffles me on why the Cubs are by far the fan favorite. We have the Mayor, the Governor AND the President cheering on the Sox, but not too many others. Cubs sell out game after game after game. I don't know why more people don't respect the sox, but i'm good with it as long as i can continue to walk up to the sox games the day of the game and get good seats.

Bottom line is that the Cubs are owned by the Chicago Tribune, which also owns the Cubs. The Cubs have had a long standing relationship with the Cubs, and pay a very low fee( lower than any in baseball) to broadcast on WGN. I too would like to see more Sox games on Wgn.

On anothe note, I don't believe that the Cubs have more fans in the city of Chicago. They have all the North side fans and Northern burbs. the South side of Chicago is twice as big as the North side, and most south siders are Sox fans. The Cubs for some reason are media favorites, so the media supports them more.

It's actually more even now than it used to be. The White Sox used to almost never be on WGN. The Cubs are more popular despite being a less winning franchise over it's history. WGN is going to show who the majority of the fans want to see.

Yes. I guess they think the Chicago audience likes the Cubs better. But in 2005 they like the White Sox better. And now that the president is a Sox fan, the cache for the Sox has gone up. They COULD have broadcast the perfect game if they were only more objective.

Get the MLB extra innings package and you can watch all of the Sox games you want regardless of what station they are playing on. The White Sox offer a specific number of games to WGN every year. The White Sox decide how many games are on WGN, not WGN.

Cubs play a lot more day games because the lighting at poor Wrigley field isn't good enough. The sox are on comcast sports net all the time though. Plus, no one gets tierd of seeing the cubs choke haha.

The broadcast schedule is set before the season starts. Cubs are only on shown on WGN - except for FOX and ESPN games. Remember, too, the Cubs used to be owned by the Tribune Company, the parent of WGN.

White Sox games are also telecast on other TV networks - CSN and WCIU
