No you can not go into bars at 18 in NYC, the drinking age is 21 but you have to look 25 to get served with alcohol. However, this doesn't mean you have to sit in the room every night either. New York is busting with nightlife, a good place to visit is times square, or take a walk up Broadway at night. Shops stay open really late at these places so you could do a little shopping too.

I would just go to Mexico, and wait until your 21 to go to New York. Theres been some debate about lowering the drinking age to 18, but not that much has come up yet. I guess that there's probably a bar somewhere that would let you in (it's a big city) but you probably wouldnt want to be in that part of town. Also, you might have some age issues at 17 because the leagal adult age is 18. If you come here anyway, I gurantee you wont be left in the room everynight. Parts of this city never go to bed, and I gurantee you'll find something to do at night. Also unless you want to get your *** kicked, or made fun of, then stay away from teen clubs. A.K.A. 13 and older crowd.

Bars are pretty much out. There may be some music venues that allow 18 yos but I'm not sure what they are. If I were you I'd check out some of the museums. I know most 18 year old guys may not be interested in stuff like that but you guys may surprise yourselves by how much you enjoy it. Take a chance on the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Museum of Natural History for $1 a piece(I love 'Suggested Donations') and if you enjoy it, go see any of the other dozens of museums in the city. You can drink at home but I bet you don't have a Picasso or a stuffed bison in your living room.

IF you're asking questions like THAT, you shouldn't even be having sex. Of course it's going to be difficult. It's difficult at the age of 37, 27, 17, and 47. No matter what age the parents, bringing a new human being into this world smoothely is just damn near impossible. The questions you should be asking are what you can expect as far as financial budgeting, tips for young parents, and how to balance a future for your own young self with the future of an even younger child. I really hope you figure things out.

You have to be at least 18 to get into bars, even restaurants with bars after a certain time but you also need to be 21 in order to drink. The same thing goes with comedy clubs, even must be 18 in order to enter.

You must be 21 years old or older to drink anywhere in the United States. Your ID will be checked because NYC has stiff fines.
However, there is still plenty for you to do:
Go to the Top of the Rock (Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center):

Get discount tickets to a Broadway show at Broadwaybox.com:
Here's a long list of places you can go to if you are under 21:

Go on a music cruise on the Circle Line around Manhattan:

Check out the Museum of Sex:
And that's just a few suggestions!

you can go sightseeing, but you will never get into any bar, and never get a drink at any restaurant. In fact, you probably will have trouble checking into any hotel being under age. Drinking age is 21 is the USA and in NYC, they are very strict about it. Double check with your hotel if they have an age limit you must be to check in.
there is a lot of sighseeing to do, places to eat, but forget the bars and clubs.

the drinking age is 21. Why don't you have a late dinner at around 9 in restaurants then by the time dinner is over its quite late

Ben, your mate is right. You can't go into bar at age 18, because the drinking age here is 21. By law, you're not of drinking age in the State, and if a bar is caught serving alcohol to a minor, that bar could loose their license to serve alcohol.
If you're consider on buying beers in New York City, the drink age of 21 still applies.
