    When gasses are under the same conditions,

    the volume relationships between gasses,

    give the coefficients of the balanced equation.

    "1 liter of chlorine gas (Cl2) with 3 liters of fluorine

    gas (F2) yields 2 liters of a gaseous product"

    1Cl2(g) + 3F2(aq) ---> 2product

    ------------------

    reactant atoms:

    1Cl2 + 3F2 = 2Cl + 6F

    product has the same number

    of atoms as in the reactants:

    1product = 2Cl + 6F

    ==>

    2product = 2(Cl + F3) = 2ClF3

    ------------------

    Balanced equation becomes:

    1Cl2(g) + 3F2(aq) ---> 2ClF3

    *** Answer: The formula of the product is ClF3 ***
